Baking Sunday
Written By Katie
It’s Superbowl, so I thought I’d share a little baking project for you all to try. Yes, I could have shared something like my buffalo chicken dip, but I am a sucker for baked goods. And since the guys usually are too, this would be a fun treat to have around any game.
I found these cute pie in a jar tutorial from Our Best Bites. You need half-pint jars (the short ones), and store bought crust and pie filling if you’re not up for making your own. If you are, check out the tutorial from Our Best Bites for making your own dough. First roll out a small amount of dough and use the lids to cut out the tops for the pies, like the bottom right photo below demostrates. Then use the rest of the dough to line the jars, all the way to the top of the jar.
You will need about 1/2 Cup filling for each jar. The below is an apple pie recipe and it looks delish. When you’ve filled up your jars, put a little butter on top (about 1/4T).
Now you’re ready to create the top crust! Like normal size pies, you want the top to have a vent so the steam can escape when baking. They even made a cute mini lattice on the below one.
Another option is to bake these with just a crumb topping. The below is a crumb topping that they put on top of their cherry pie filling
1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Flour
2 T Oats
1/4 T Cinnamon
3T Cold Butter
Combine sugar, flour and cinnamon and cut in butter. Add the oats and stir to combine before splitting up between jars. The above recipe will work for about 4-6 jars.
Bake the pies on a baking sheet in the cold oven and let them warm up with the oven until it reaches 375. They should bake for 45-50 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the middle is bubbly. You could pop them out of the jar like the below to eat, but I think part of the fun is to eat it out of the jar! Especially if you make the crumb topping!
My mouth is watering, I need to make these!
